VISA General Entry Rules

General Entry Rules for International Travelers. Regardless of nationality, you must follow these steps to enter India:

  • e-Visa: If eligible, apply online through the official Indian government website. You must apply at least 4 days before your arrival and no more than 30 days in advance for a 30-day tourist visa.
  • Passport Validity: Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date you arrive in India.

All foreign nationals traveling to India must submit an e-Arrival Card online via the official e-Arrival Card Portal, the Bureau of Immigration website, within 72 hours prior to their scheduled arrival.

The digital form has permanently replaced traditional paper disembarkation cards at immigration checkpoints. All foreign national visitors entering India (including tourists, business travelers, and students). Indian citizens are exempt. The service is entirely free; beware of unauthorized third-party agents charging fees.

A health declaration has been reintroduced to screen for health risks (in response to Ebola outbreaks).

  • When: No earlier than 24 hours before your arrival in India.
  • Where: On the official Air Suvidha 2.0 Portal
  • Need to Know: This is a separate requirement from the e-Arrival Card.

You can only use an e-Visa to enter India through 88 designated immigration checkpoints, which include 37 airports and several seaports and land ports.

🔍 Other Important Rules to Note

  • Biometrics: Applicants between 12 and 70 years of age will generally need to provide biometrics (fingerprints) when applying for a visa.
  • Entry Registration: If you plan to stay in India for more than 180 days, you must register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days of your arrival.
  • Restricted Areas: Visiting certain protected or restricted areas in India requires a special permit beyond the visa.
  • Use Official Sources: Be aware that there is no “express” or “emergency” e-Visa service. Only use the official government website to avoid scams.

Every event during the Congress has its own theme, so please plan your outfits ahead:

  • Tuesday Evening – Outdoors : The dress code is “Indo Chic” for the Sundowner Experience. Think bold, vibrant silhouettes that are easy, breathable, and made for a night that flows. Shoes: Flats or wedges recommended

  • Wednesday & Thursday Morning – Indoors Airconditioned : The dress code is “Business Formals – Add a Piece of India”. Wear sharp formals accented with an Indian touch, such as a stole, scarf, brooch, or statement accessory.

  • Wednesday Evening – Outdoors for Baraat and Indoors Air Conditioned for Gala: It’s time for a Royal Night Out, so come dressed in your traditional Indian best or gala-ready attire for a regal evening and a quintessential Indian experience.

  • Thursday Evening – Outdoors: The dress code is “Modern India” for the closing celebration at Jagmandir Island Palace, managed by Taj Lake Palace

Cards are widely accepted at the Fairmont Udaipur Palace and major venues. However, we recommend keeping some cash (INR) handy for local purchases in the Udaipur bazaars and for small gratuities. While a service charge is often included at hotels, small tips for porters, drivers, and housekeeping are always appreciated. Please note that all meals and activities listed on the official DWP Congress program are fully included.
